Aussie actress Katherine Langford has scored a Golden Globe Awards nomination for her role as Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why. While many are celebrating, a lot of people are mad about it.

The series in question — 13 Reasons Why — gained notoriety when it was released on Netflix earlier this year, when it became nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon. Based on Jay Asher’s YA novel, the show came under heat for its irresponsible depiction of suicide, bullying and sexual assault.

At the forefront of the criticism was that the series romanticised the suicide carried out by Langford’s character Hannah, which could be seen as a dangerous message to send to its audience of mostly young people.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Aussie actress’ character and the series itself, there’s no denying Langford nailed the role, and her depiction of the series’ leading angsty teen was raw, vulnerable and well beyond her years.

While many are saying the 21-year-old deserved her nomination, not everyone thinks it was the right decision.

Here’s how Twitter is reacting to the news:

Fans and costars are applauding Langford for her award nom.

While others are not so happy with the choice of Langford, over other actresses that missed out.
