For the non-geeks out there, yesterday Elon Musk’s SpaceX company launched it’s ‘Falcon Heavy’ rocket — the most powerful rocket in the world today.
The bigass spaceship is off on a trip past Mars, but on the way it released one of Musk’s Telsa Cars, equipped with a space-dummy named ‘Starman’, who is cruising above us. Literally. Here he is over our Great Southern Land.
One of SpaceX’s key innovations is that its booster rockets are able to return back to earth so that they can be used over and over again. This is a massive breakthrough because it’ll radically cut the cost of future trips into the big black emptiness above us.
In yesterday’s live stream, Space X showed the boosters returning to earth and it looked cool and futuristic af. But the closeup shot they used lacked real perspective.
Now, some amateur footage has emerged taken by a bystander some distance away. In the clip below, you can see the two boosters hurtling towards earth and just how damn loud they are. It’s bloody amazing!
