Aussie Hero Damien Says He’s Disappointed In ‘Survivor’ Tribe For Early Eviction

Last night in a shocking tribal council, early fave Damien was voted off Survivor and he reckons they made a big mistake.

As the champions landed themselves in their second tribal council in a row, it initially appeared like poker champ Jackie would be voted off the island but in a blindside move, war veteran Damien was sent packing instead.

We spoke to Damien and he told us he was disappointed that his tribe turned on him.

“I was a bit more disappointed than anything,” he said.

“I was sitting there and people were walking past me and not making eye contact with me. So I’m sitting there thinking ‘what’s happened?'”

The only tribe members to not vote for Damien was The Biggest Loser’s Steve and ex rugby player Mat.

The justification for evicting Damien has been criticised by viewers. Jackie encouraged the group to vote for the army vet because of his disability and he was even described as a “liability” by Lydia.

With Jackie not performing as well in the physical challenges, Damien said he wished he had called her out.

“Oh, she was useless [at physical challenges] and then there’s the irony of her being a puzzle solver and then not being able to solve any of the puzzles,” he said.

“Reflecting on it, I wish I had called it ou,t but I’m not that type of guy.”

Damien added that he thinks the champions made the wrong call.

“The champions are going to be disadvantaged in challenges now, I think I added a lot more than I took away.”

He concluded by saying his team could be headed for disaster.

“I have a feeling after last night’s decision where everyone fled in different directions, I think this will cause a rift between people. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic changes,” he said.

“The contenders team may be stronger. Because people [on champions] are giving their word to each other but then they need to look over their shoulder.”

Australian Survivor returns tonight at 7:30pm on Channel Ten.
