American Artist & Voice Contestant Christina Grimmie Is Killed At The Age Of 22

Former singer from The Voice USA Christina Grimmie has passed away at the age of 22, after being shot at her own show in Orlando, Florida last night.

Officials say Christina Grimmie was signing autographs for fans following her concert at the Plaza in Orlando, when the singer was shot by a gunman.

Orlando Police were told that Grimmie’s brother immediately tackled the suspect, who then killed himself. The male gunman has not yet been identified.

Sargent Wanda Miglio from Orlando Police told ABC news that if it wasn’t for Grimmie’s brother, the gunman could have harmed fans and others surrounding the singer. “Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else.”

Grimmie joined with the American band Before You Exit during their ‘All the Lights’ tour, appearing in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Washington, and Atlanta.

The band have released their deepest condolences to their beloved friend in a statement on Twitter:

“While we know there is no sort of feeling that can replace the joy Christina brought into our lives, we know she is glistening from up in Heaven and shining down on us.”

With over three million YouTube subscribers, the 22-year-old singer began her music career over the internet, turning her screen into a concert venue.

Launching her YouTube channel in 2009, she began by covering songs by Adele, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez in front of a large online presence. One of those viewers was Selena Gomez’s stepfather Brian Teefey, who worked as Grimmie’s manager.

Fans have rallied around the singer since the shooting, sharing their favourite moments, along with their shock and sadness over Grimmie’s tragic death.

She went on to appear on The Voice USA in 2014- placing third. She released her second EP in February titled ‘Side A’, featuring hits ‘Snow White’, ‘Deception’, and ‘Without Him’.

The Voice have released their condolences to the singer who will remain a loved member of the program for years to come.
