When it comes to giving hopeful musicians the helping hand they need to make it off the ground, Brisbane City Council’s The QUBE Effect music program is absolutely killing it. Other Aussie cities need to take note.

The talented musos from this year’s program have been performing as part of Youth Week in Brisbane’s CBD, with the remaining acts set to perform on Saturday, April 14 at the Albert Street pop-up stage from 2-9pm. The QUBE Effect has produced some solid Aussie talent including acts that have gone on to achieve triple j Unearthed success and feature on major festival line ups, so it’s set to be a killer showcase.

The QUBE Effect gives emerging and semi-professional Brisbane musos opportunities in live performance and professional development that can turn musical aspirations into legit careers. Because being young and talented is one thing (amirite?) but knowing wtf to do with it is the hard part.

Basically, an industry panel selects 24 musical groups and soloists who are taken under the wing for a six-month program that includes everything from video clip filming and live performances to management workshops, industry networking, prizes and more. It’s the dream package for wannabe stars.

From 15 May you can also check out all the act’s video clips online to rate the Brissy talent and vote for your favourite – the People’s Choice Award winner will rake in a $2000 cash prize plus a paid performance at Jungle Love Festival.

It’s good to be a young muso in Brisbane is all I’m saying.
