It’s been up in the air whether or not the 2018 Grammys would snub the undeniably fire track of the year, ‘Despacito’, but it looks like they’ve put themselves firmly on the right side of history.

The remix of ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber has raked in not one, not two, but three Grammy nominations. Just when you thought the mega hit might be getting irrelevant, let this be a reminder that this song will always be gold.

‘Despacito’ is nominated for both Record and Song of the year, the only track to have a double nomination in both top categories. It’s also been nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Let the ‘Despacito’ reign continue.

If ‘Despacito’ takes home Song of the Year it will make history as the first Spanish-language song to do so. The last non-english-language track to receive the award for that category was back in 1959 at the very first Grammys when Domenico Modugno and Franco Migliacci won for ‘Volare’, sung in Italian.

It’s about time to bump English off the throne and who better to do that than the almighty ‘Despacito’. Even if Bieber doesn’t really know the Spanish lyrics, it’s a big win for Latin music.

It’s safe to say that if the iconic hit had been snubbed by the Grammys there would have been some very vocal outrage from the ‘Despacito’ stans. Keen to see the song get all the appreciation it damn well deserves.
