Watching the Wildlings’ leader Tormund crushing on Brienne of Tarth is the Game of Thrones rom-com plot line we live for. But brace for heartbreak because apparently the pair probs won’t live to see a happy ending. Noooooooooo.

Game of Thrones plots are mostly grim af, which is why we get such joy from Tormund catching ~*feelings*~ for Brienne.

In the first ep of season seven we got a little glimpse into what we hope to be a budding romance between the two. It looked like Brienne got a bit distracted during her sparring with Pod because of a certain red-headed suitor. Could she be coming around to our fave Wildling?

People want to see Tormund’s pining pay off. We want to see some action, and wouldn’t it be kind to give the GoT fans what they want. Just this once. Plz.

At least someone gets it and is giving us what we wanna see:

SPECULATIVE SPOILERS AHEAD…

Well, soak up all the joy you can from the imaginary success of that relationship because it’s unlikely to last.

Of course, the show would see our joy and potentially rip it away from us. Throwback to the Red Wedding as a little reminder to NEVER get too attached. Lesson learned.

Here’s the TERRIBLE news. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly from before season seven premiered, showrunner David Benioff responded to the fan’s love of Tormund’s wholesome crush on Brienne of Tarth with this cruel, cruel statement:

“It inspires us because we need to kill one of them now because there can’t be a happy ending or any romantic connection on the show. But we’re not going to tell you which one.”

WTAF man why you gotta be like that?

We are going to pray that it’s all just slanderous lies and continue to passionately ship Briemund. Now, to take our mind off what tragedies wait around the corner on GoT this season let’s revisit this scene of Tormund’s irresistible skills of seduction:
