Harry Potter fans are getting around this fan-made film that is so legit it realllly quenches the Harry Potter thirst. It’s blowing up online, racking up over five and a half million views in less than three days.

A huge part of the appeal of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series is all the detailed backstory and history that makes the wizarding world come to life. It’s the story that keeps on growing for as long as people keep wanting to indulge in Harry Potter‘s world. And hell yea we do.

So it’s no wonder that this (seriously high quality) fan-made mini-movie has taken the fandom by storm and gone instantly viral.

While Warner Bros. has started digging around into the wizarding world’s pre-Harry Potter story with the Fantastic Beasts franchise, a talented group of fans have taken things into their own hands and given us the dark story of Tom Riddle’s rise to become the series’ main antagonist, Voldemort.

The film is titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir and is by Tryangle Films, co-directed by Gianmaria Pezzato and Stefano Prestia. They began a crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign for the work back in 2016 but ran into copyright problems with Warner Bros., who promptly issued a takedown notice.

Fortunately, Tryangle Films reached an agreement with the studio so that they could create and release this fire project, so long as it was on a non-profit basis and marked as an unofficial fan project.

Origins of the Heir nails the Harry Potter catalogue and aesthetic. It’s a 52-minute feature that follows an original character, Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir of Gryffindor, as she seeks out Tom Riddle and pieces Voldemort’s story together.

So sit down and settle in for a solid dose of (unofficial) Harry Potter content!
