John Legend Texted Kanye West About Trump Tweets & Then Their Wives Clapped Back

Following on from yesterday’s tweet storm, Kanye West’s buddy John Legend has told the rap star what needed to be said after his whole Twitter/Trump supporting drama, proving John Legend is truly a…well, legend.

We are privy to John’s personal communication with his mate Kanye because Ye (of course) tweeted screenshots of the texts, along with a slew of more and more random tweets. Just the usual.

The texts are in response to Kanye’s tweets about Donald Trump that seemed to throw some level of support behind the controversial president.

The whole Twitter/Kanye/Trump situation was a bit of a mess to wade through and you can read an explainer going into the finer details here, and a look at the fallout among Kanye’s celebrity fam and friends here.

John Legend was among those who unfollowed Kanye yesterday, and he also tweeted his own criticism of Kanye’s sentiments.

Now he’s reached out to Kanye directly to address the issue of tweeting support for Trump, and it’s the perfect example of how to approach changing someone’s mind.

He’s not coming from a place of rage, instead he’s empathetic and also just damn correct.

His text reads:

“Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans.

“They are loyal to you and respect your opinion. So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation.”

After Kanye accused him of trying to “manipulate my free thought,” John legend responded:

“Think freely. Think with empathy and context too. Your words and actions have consequences. Much love.”

Before adding, “And since you’re posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha.” Lol.

John Legend is officially climbing the list of my fave people. His advice to Kanye about the importance of “empathy and context,” in the way we form our own thoughts is the wisdom we need right now (and Kanye DEFINITELY needs).

So shout out to J.L for putting in the labour and trying to make a positive difference.

Hopefully they’re back to being besties again. If not, it could get a little awkward at the Chrissy/John/Kim/Kanye double-dates!!!

Both Chrissy and Kim have tweeted each other and seem to find it all one big lol.

The dinner is still on, I guess…?
