We all know a clumsy person that just can’t help bumping into things. For those in my inner circle, that person is usually me. So, I sympathise with this poor sucker who destroyed a quarter of a million dollars in modern art in seconds. I feel ya.

A visitor at contemporary LA gallery ‘The 14th Factory’ was caught on camera crouching to get a sweet IG snap of an exhibition by Simon Birch. In the piece titled ‘Hypercaine‘, custom made crowns were placed on pedestals, changing gradually in each artwork to demonstrate a ‘heroes journey’.

As it turns out, these side-by-side sculptures also double as an expensive set of one-time-use dominoes.

In the CCTV footage captured below, you can see a passerby crouching down next to the exhibition while her friend lines up for the perfect pic #perfection #sophistication. As she bends down, her bum bumbs and wobbles the first pedestal, which in a swift chain reaction wipes out the whole first row. According to a comment by a friend of the artist, these few expensive seconds come to the cool cost of $250K in destruction.

But if you’re one for a good conspiracy, a comment on the YouTube clip with absolutely no basis or proof claims ‘staged event to draw attention to rubbish artist‘ (yes, probably a troll) – in which case, bravo. You have succeeded.

Cringe at the footage below:
