Another week, another Eddie McGuire clusterfuck. This time, regarding an interview with GQ Magazine where he touched on a few of his past controversies.

One issue he addressed was that horrendous Adam Goodes comment that he says was made whilst apparently on heavy-medication at the time, and another was that he felt regret and sadness for the way Jessica Rowe was treated with the network. As McGuire admits:

“I know Jessica’s been saying how hurt she was by it and I’ve deliberately not wanted to pick the scab on this. She was the drive-by victim in all of this – she didn’t deserve any of it, and I feel deeply about that. She was the unwitting victim of a fight; she bore the brunt of it and that was terrible,” McGuire said.

The quote was read on Studio 10 yesterday morning, with panelist Joe Hildebrand responding to the confession by saying this all trivializes serious news happening right now, to which Rowe disputed:

“It’s not trivializing things when your the subject of abuse. It upsets me enormously to hear this again. It brings back a terrible time in my life and makes me incredibly sad.”

Rowe went on say:

“That year was a terrible time in my life and it was not helped by public abuse, abuse within the network I worked at and abuse from someone in charge of that particular network. It was horrific and it preempted then a very dark period in my life.”

When Sarah Harris asked whether Rowe would want McGuire to come on the show and apologise, Rowe declined saying that it wouldn’t take away the pain and it’s a time she doesn’t want to revisit again.

“I wish him well. I’m in a good place and the best revenge to me is living well and that means being happy,” she said.
