It’s the first of April again, and with the fall of this dreaded day comes a flurry of office gags and gotcha tricks, with novice pranksters gettin’ their fool on. The gullible should beware and watch their backs at all times. Trust. No one.

But wait, trust us! As here are some movies to lol at, celebrating the best pranks this April Fools Day.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Netflix

The king of pranks Sacha Baron Cohen pushes nerves, presenting everyday people with the character of Borat – a pillar of sexism, racism and prejudice. He even kidnaps Pamela Andersen in a bizarre scene. The viewer is aware that the entire story is a practical joke and the results are cringey perfection.

Jackass
Presto

Not for the faint-hearted and definitely don’t try this at home. These founders of pranking on screen shock in a series of gross, twisted and often painful stunts – some funny, some just bonkers.

Jawbreaker
iTunes

When pranks go wrong it can be deadly. This black-comedy is a cult classic for a reason. Telling the fucked-up tale of a clique of teenage socialites who accidentally murders their best friend and cover it up when a birthday prank goes awry.

I’m Still Here
Presto

Joke was on all of us as Joaquin Phoenix convinced the world he planned to retire from acting and concentrate on a new career as a hip-hop musician –  this hoax documentary goes through his personal quest.

Dumb and Dumber
iTunes

Stick with the original, which includes a terrible series of pranks from chilli spikings, laxative druggings and a poor blind boy’s bird being killed and stuffed. It’s a silly flick but a classic nevertheless.

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
Presto

Johnny Knoxville as Irving Zisman and his young and impressionable grandson, Billy road trip across America, with hidden cameras capturing their insane and shocking encounters with unsuspecting locals.

Billy Madison
iTunes

Madison was a man-sized child and the poop-bag prank in Billy Madison is a perfect examples of this.

Home Alone
iTunes

This is the ultimate prankster film, and not just at Christmas. Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister makes those burglars pay with a bunch of elaborate tricks and the results are frankly sadistic and borderline psychotic. Looking back now, Kevin really needed mental help.

Brüno
iTunes

With Borat comes the brazen, perverted and rather underrated cousin Brüno. Baron Cohan returns as Austrian flamboyant fashionista, unleashed on America and the Middle East and the results are predictably uncomfortable to watch.

Apart from the crass dick-jokes, there is so much comic gold in this. From comparing Osama bin Laden to a ‘dirty wizard’ when speaking to an al-Qaeda official, stealing an African child he renames ‘OJ’ or convincing parents for their kids to get liposuction. But there is also some damning examples of homophobia exposed. Must watch.

The Hangover
Netflix

A stags night turns to disarray after one of the bucks Alan roofies the gang – facial tatts, stolen babies and tigers, it’s got the lot.
