Mental health in Australia is something that doesn’t get nearly the attention or funding that it should, with Aussie men the main offenders when it comes to sweeping the problem under the rug.

beyondblue does fantastic work in the mental illness space and you might remember their campaign directed towards men that was championed by Dr. Brian Ironwood titled ‘man therapy’.

After a good and productive run the Doctor has been joined by a high-vis vest clad chap named Davo.

The change comes on the back of research that found men in more blue collar lines of work such as tradies or farmers, are still not taking up the help that is out there, with only 49 per cent saying they would speak to a GP to seek help.

In his own words chairman of beyondblue and former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett said.

“We’ve created Davo to help tradies and other men who don’t work in offices recognise the signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety, and to guide them to support. Men owe it to themselves and their loved ones to be as healthy as they can be, and Davo will help them do that. This is a funny, cheeky and attention-grabbing campaign that will have a big impact.”

Nearly 2000 Australian men die by suicide each year, which is triple the number of women and nearly double the amount of men killed on the road.
