The future is now and humans have started blow waving their hair inside plastic water bottles, inspired by the viral trend currently captivating people looking for DIY ways to curl their hair.

Enticed by all the videos, I tried the seemingly effortless water bottle challenge and it’s not as simple as it looks. When it wasn’t spinning my hair into knots, all my hair flew out of the water bottle, whipping me in the face. Beauty really IS pain.

Either way, it didn’t end with me having perfectly bouncy barrelled waves. Instead, I looked like I had just been dragged through a forest.

So if you crave Victoria’s Secret hair but want to resist conventional means like, say, a curling tong, then here are some other DIY methods that don’t require a water bottle.

Headband:

I can vouch for this technique and IT WORKS. All you need is a stretchy headband placed over your head, then twist your hair away from your face around to create a crown and go to bed. Results are loose, flowing curls.

Forks:

This looks like a lot of work tbh. You basically twist your hair around the handle of a plastic fork, then use the fork’s prongs to secure the curl to your head. Then you blow dry the whole thing and pray the plastic doesn’t melt.

Socks:

This kind of curling is more my vibe. Grab a bunch of odd socks and wrap your hair around the sock, then tie it together at the top. Go to bed, wake up and voila! A head full of curls!

Toilet Paper Rolls:

Starting out with damp hair, this technique subs actual curling rollers for toilet rolls using the same method. Wrap up your hair and secure with a bobby pin. Leave for a few hours. I doubt you’d be able to sleep with a head full of toilet rolls, tbh.

Aluminium Foil:

This is not for the faint of heart and could potentially be v dangerous. But it’s also the quickest method by far. Cut out a square of aluminium foil, twisting your hair around two fingers and hold it together by wrapping it up in aluminium foil. Then use a straightening iron to flatten it and hold for a few seconds.
