Here’s EVERYTHING We Know About ‘Love Island Australia’ Ahead Of Its Premiere

TV is about to become a lot trashier when Love Island Australia hits our screens later this month. While the UK is already three seasons deep, the series is brand new to us Aussies and we have many, many questions.

From the info we’ve gathered, the show seems to be borrowing from a few reality TV formulas but it’s pretty similar to what we’ve just seen on Bachelor In Paradise… but much steamier.

‘It’s a really sexy version of Big Brother without any body fat,’ Sophie told Triple M. So here’s all the intel on what we can expect when the series drops.

Here’s absolutely EVERYTHING we know about Love Island Australia:

When do we find out the contestants?

Over the weekend the show introduced the contestants to us, and we’ve got everything from beauty queens, to rugby players, and even a doggy daycare worker.

“The first time contestants meet each other is when they arrive at the villa, so the producers’ priority is to keep everything top secret,” a source told NW.

If it’s anything like Big Brother, it’s likely the contestants will go into lockdown and not even get to meet one another until the cameras start rolling.

How does the show work?

The series is all about coupling up and forming the strongest/most popular pair. During the first episode, Sophie will introduce the singles to each other and they have to form couples straight away… literally within minutes of meeting each other.

From here they attend recoupling ceremonies every few episodes and the least popular couples will be voted off the show. Things get extra spicy as they add in intruders and the couples need to choose whether to stay together or ditch one another for some fresh meat.

Basically, the aim of the game is to be the last couple standing in order to win the final prize. More on that in a sec.

How do we vote people off the island?

This is the exciting part. The series is totally controlled by the viewers. We basically get to choose which islanders are given certain tasks, who gets to go on dates, and ultimately who gets to stay or who has to be sent packing.

Sophie revealed when speaking to Hit Network’s Amos, Cat and Angus that fans will vote via a Love Island Australia app. I guess the days of calling toll numbers and waiting on voting lines are loooong gone.

What can we expect to see every night?

The series is promising us a whole lotta sex, the kind of seedy, sexy content that Aussie TV has never seen before.

“We’ve always tended to be a bit safer here in Australia, but not now – you can see everything. I’m so proud of Channel Nine. Good on them for going fully sexy,” Sophie told NW.

The cameras are rolling 24/7 and it seems pretty damn probable that sexual intercourse will happen and we will be watching. Neato.

For the rest of the time, the islanders will be receiving date cards as well as competing in challenges, which during the UK season was mostly all about sex positions and eating food off each other’s bikini/speedo-wearing bodies. Just clean and safe fun, ya know.

What does the final couple win?

As viewers vote for their favourite couple, the winning duo could take home $50,000, which tbh is actually kinda low in terms of winner earnings for a reality TV show.

But WAIT, here’s the kicker. To measure whether the couple has actually found true love, each half of the winning pair is given the chance to share the money or walk away with it all for themselves.

Make. It. Rain.

With the Australian season expected to replicate what the UK did, the big twist is if they both choose to keep the money for themselves, then NO ONE gets any money. It’s savage AF.

When does it start?

Love Island Australia premieres on May 27 at 8:30pm on 9Go and 9Now. And the even better news is that the series will be screening from Sunday to Thursday every week, with each episode playing within 24 hours of being filmed.

Not long now, fam!
