Married at First Sight’s boys’ and girls’ nights often bring out the drama, and one contestant who went especially hard on this week’s episode was Selin Mengu.

In a baffling display, Selin pestered the ladies with questions about the couples’ retreat, an event she missed after voting to leave the experiment and her TV husband, Anthony. Selin asking about the controversial retreat over and over, but the ladies were unresponsive. “Hello? Guys? No one’s hearing me?” she said to no one in particular.

Eventually Selin just started flinging insults. “This is why I wore this evil eye to protect me against the bitches,” she said to the table. “Did you just call me a bitch?” Olivia asked. “Yeah I did, I said bitches,” Selin replied.

It was some rather deranged behaviour, especially as Selin had not been apart of the experiment for several weeks and was not present for the glass-smashing drama that had transpired between Dom and Olivia. In an interview with 9Entertainment, Selin has explained that she went into girls’ night with the intention of defending Dom. “I actually heard rumours of the girls ganging up on Domenica which didn’t really sit with me well,” Selin said.

“I wanted to go in and address that issue front on, and I really didn’t get any answers. The girls didn’t want to talk about it.”

Selin went on to speak about how little Dom spoke up on girls’ night, which was in stark contrast to the Dom we’ve come to know, who rarely shies away from conflict. “Dom’s light was dimmed so low that she wasn’t herself,” Selin said. “She couldn’t even really speak that night. I didn’t like seeing that. I didn’t like seeing everyone gang up on someone. That’s bullying and I just wasn’t there for it.”

Regarding some of the other conflict from the evening, Selin addressed Carolina’s actions hooking up with Daniel during the experiment. “Daniel and Carolina wanted to be together. They could have went about it in a whole different way if they wanted to be together,” Selin said.

“What they did and how they put Dion down, and the way that they treated him in the process, it just wasn’t nice. She [Carolina] actually came in with her head held high which is really funny to see… She came in very confident and just sat down like she’d done nothing wrong.”

Married at First Sight returns for its final dinner party on Sunday at 7pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
