There Are Very Real Calls For Tinder To Ban Profile Pics With Tigers & We’re On Board
Sick of seeing dudes thinkin’ they’re total badasses for posing with heavily sedated tigers on Tinder? Today’s your lucky day.
This Saturday is International Tiger Day and animal rights organisation PETA is calling for Tinder to stand in support against animal cruelty. The animal rights organisation wants to ban Tinder users from posting pics of themselves with tigers on their profile and we’re on board with it.
In a letter to Tinder’s co-founder Sean Rad, PETA made a case to ban the all too popular use of photos taken with tigers – which are commonly kept in captivity and under heavy tranquilizers.
If you don’t use Tinder or haven’t heard of the trend, you might not realise just how many dudes (and some ladies too) that have photos with tigers on their profile. It’s ridick. In their letter PETA pointed out that:
“The problem is so great that there are entire blogs dedicated to “Tigers of Tinder” and “Tinder guys with Tigers.”
Don’t be fooled by these selfies with these cute, sedate looking tigers, because they look sedate for a reason.
PETA is dropping truth bombs and it’s time for real talk about the lives of these tigers, lions, and other big cats who are alarmingly popular across Tinder photos:
“Baby tigers and other animals used at photo attractions are typically torn away from their distraught mothers when they’re just days old and then subjected to extreme stress and physical abuse. Once they’ve grown larger and are too dangerous to handle, they end up being locked away in cages or heavily sedated.”
So, who’s on board to ban Tiger pics now? Will anyone miss seeing dudes of Tinder forcing animals to pose with them? Yea nah. PETA signed off their letter with a cheeky pun and catchy call to action that has us convinced:
“With International Tiger Day just around the corner, now is the perfect time to help protect pussies by banning the most selfish selfie of all. By taking the tiger stripes out of swipes, you’ll be sending a message to the Tinder community that in modern-day matchmaking, cruelty to animals should never be on offer.”
While the animal welfare organisation isn’t always leading the charge in terms of educating about animal reform in an ethical fashion, we’re with PETA on this! Save the tigers and just get a dog to pose with you like the rest of Tinder.
