Thirsty Merc stage manager killed in car crash, drummer in intensive care

Australian Pop/Rock band, Thirsty Merc are mourning the loss of their stage manager, who was killed yesterday in a car accident on the way to a show in Warnambool.

The band’s drummer, Mick Skelton was seriously injured in the crash.

According to news.com.au, The incident occurred at a highway intersection in Streatham, about 2.30pm. Skelton was flown to the Alfred Hospital where he is in intensive care after completing surgery.

It is understood that the band’s lead-singer Rai Thistlethwayte, guitarist Matt Smith and bass player Phil Stack were traveling in a separate vehicle.

The other driver involved in the collision was traveling in a ute and is also being treated for injuries at Ballarat hospital.

This afternoon, via their Facebook page, Thirsty Merc posted a statement, delivering the  “utterly tragic” news and addressing their remaining tour dates.
