In 2017, the raw selfie is so passé – Instagram is ruled by carefully constructed, framed and filtered works of #art. With the pressure to groom our profiles into aesthetically pleasing trophies of our self-wankery – how are we supposed to frame that perfect angle?

Facebook and Instagram page ‘Boyfriends of Instagram’ is a shrine to the blokes (and now girlfriends) behind the camera. It’s a place to celebrate the patience and selflessness of those that do what they’re told and help their partner get the perfect snap.
For they are the unsung heroes behind the likes.
In our quest for cutting-edge journalism that questions the very foundation of our society, we tracked down the admins behind the page to hear their story. Here’s what we found out:
How long have you been running Boyfriends Of Instagram and what was the reason you started the page?
I think we’ve now been up and running for just over a year. But we originally had the idea kicking around well before actually creating the page.
At the time, we thought we would be the only ones to find it funny. Then one weekend while having a few beers, we snapped one of our mates who was taking pictures of some girls and we decided to just bite the bullet and make the page.
That original photo is still the profile picture for the FB page haha.

How many admins are there and where are you based?
Theres 2 of us and we are based in Sydney who are running both the Facebook page and Instagram page @boyfriends_of_insta.
Where do you get the inspiration behind each post? How often do you get fan submissions?
Oh man, we get soooo many submissions daily. I reckon it can very from anywhere between 10 – 40 submissions a day from all over the world.
It’s actually pretty crazy.
Inspiration usually comes in the form of staring at the photo for an extended period of time, trying to think of the wittiest caption to go with the photo!

Any chance of a Girlfriends of Instagram page?
Haha well we have kinda fused the two together. It started with just boyfriends but as the page grew, we started getting heaps of submissions with the roles reversed, sometimes those ones are even better hahaha.
You have cracked 45K fans – did you ever think the page would come this far?
No way!
For so long it peaked at like 300 likes and we almost gave up on it. Then randomly, different radio stations around the world along with other Facebook pages started promoting and featuring us. We even got a shout out from Akon hahaha.
Its even crazier to think that our Instagram page now has 78k followers!
What is your favourite boyfriend of Instagram photo?
Haha – that’s a tough one.
Each picture has its own special thing that makes it hilarious.
