Doritos are making moves with ReachOut Australia to get young Aussies to check themselves and their mental health. The “Be Bold” campaign hopes to kick-start conversations about mental illness amongst those who may be suffering in silence.

According to a new study conducted by the mental health giant, 1 in 4 young Australians struggle with mental illness. Despite the rising cases of mental health struggles within Australia, ReachOut has also recorded that 1 in 3 Aussies are using phrases such as “I’m OK” or ” I’m fine” about 10 times a week to hide their true emotions. As a result, a shocking 70% of Aussies do not seek help when facing these battles.

In an attempt to decrease that statistic, Doritos have come through with a limited edition flavour to promote the importance of reaching out. The new ‘Bold BBQ’ flavour prompts consumers to check themselves and their mental health.

The new packaging also has a mental health tool via the QR code which redirects to ReachOut’s “Check-In With Yourself” quiz, which was set up to help young Aussies track their mental health and learn what the next steps are to gain the best resources for their current situation.

ReachOut CEO, Ashley de Silva says “After a challenging few years for young people in Australia, conversation and connection is so important.”

So let’s check in on our friends, family and ourselves and “be bold” about our mental health!

Doritos X Reach Out is now available at Woolworths and Coles.
