A post-election altercation between shock jock Steve Price and journalist Jamila Rizvi last week on The Project, has led to a petition on Change.org. The petition calls for the news program to apologise to Price, which has garnered over 20k signatures online.

As the petition reads:

“This is a petition is a call for a public apology, made on national tv by the presenters involved, to recognise that what happened on The Project is unacceptable and should be condemned.

Wether[sic] you are on the left, right, or somewhere in between, nobody should experience what Steve experienced,” the petition says.

The argument came from a discussion about the Trump election win. As Price talked about how he thinks Trump became President against all odds, because of the disenfranchisement of middle America or as he says “real America”, Jamila interjected.

“Can we cut through this bullshit of there being a “real America”,” the journalist cuts in.

He complains that he was speaking, while Jamila says that question was addressed to her, before Price slams back:

“This is the reason that Donald Trump won, because of people like you lecture and hector people,” Steve said.

It was at this point that Carrie Bickmore jumped in and said that they were speaking to specifically Jamila and Steve doesn’t need to have such a tone. Price finished by saying he thought he could speak without being interrupted. Since the argument aired, the petition says:

“In every single facebook post detailing the exchange, the people of Australia have expressed their outrage of the leftist bullying that occurred, coming out in support of the conservative commentator. Nobody, no matter what side of politics they fall on, should have to experience the abuse and degradation of what Steve had to go through on that program,” it says.

While this is far from the truth, many have sided with Jamila, but there is definitely fault on both sides. Price essentially blaming Jamila for the Trump presidency is perhaps a step too far. Plus, Price isn’t exactly known for his politeness when speaking to guests on The Project, causing upset and offense several times in the past.
