Summer Is Cancelled As A Paddle Pop, Magnum & Golden Gaytime Boycott Threat Looms
Summer might be cancelled this year. Everyone’s fave summers day treats Paddle Pops, Golden Gaytimes and Magnums could be off the menu, following Streets ice cream factory workers threatening a public boycott.
Editors note: this story was published on October 2 2017, and updates have been made on November 1, 2017 below.
The union representing the ice cream company will urge the public to boycott its products over summer, to draw attention to the business terminating their agreement on pay and conditions.
What the choccy fudge are we going to do with our summer now?!?
The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union confirmed the move to implement a widespread snub of Streets ice creams, if the company’s owner Unilever terminates the current enterprise agreement, which could lead to possible pay cuts.
The move would mirror the Carlton and United Breweries public boycott of 2016. The year-long boycott eventually led to the dispute being resolved and a deal being struck between the company and the Electric Trades Union and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union.
Hopefully, this is sorted before summer and we can chow down on all the rainbow (the best flavour, duh) Paddle Pops our brain freezes can withstand.
Updated: Unfortunitly Unilever has applied to Fair Work Australia to terminate their current enterprise agreement. As a result, 140 workers at Streets could potentially receive a pay cut up to 46 percent. Booo!
For heaven’s sake, what would the Paddle Pop lion, aka Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, say?!
Leave no paddy pop behind.
