Who could have imagined a movie bringing bestiality and dancing cutlery to the big screen could be such a triumph?

Already receiving rave reviews Beauty and the Beast has made over $750 million worldwide since debuting earlier in the month and is set to launch a new age of childhood movie remakes.

Following on from blockbuster film’s Maleficent and Cinderella, Disney are sticking to the formula, and digging into their back catalogue of films set for a live-action revival.

Here’s the Disney films being remade in live-action next:

The Little Mermaid

This remake has been rumoured for yonks. Disney are still in talks over an exact release date, but have Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken on board to create a blend of old and new songs for the upcoming live-action version.

Aladdin

Vale Robin Williams. But Aladdin will be back, with Sherlock Holmes’ Guy Ritchie set to direct. The new musical isn’t whitewashing the remake either, and are currently casting for talent of Middle Eastern descent.

The Lion King

Disney is enlisting similiar technology as The Jungle Book to bring ‘The Lion King’ to life. The remake will be directed by Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones will return as Mufasa, while Donald Glover will fill the role of Simba.

Mulan

Pegged for release in 2018 and to be directed by Niki Caro, the remake will controversially not feature any of the original songs from the animated film.

Cruella

No director is attached to this yet, but Emma Stone is rumoured to have signed on to play Cruella de Vil, so it’s sounding phenomenal already.

Dumbo

There’s not a lot of info available on this remake but under the direction of Tim Burton anything is possible. The live-action will also star Eva Green and Danny DeVito.

Tink

This one has been in development for some time, with a variety of actresses supposedly taking on the title role. But the new name being thrown around is Reese Witherspoon, with the film similiar to Maleficent, attempting to tell audiences “the story you don’t know” about Peter Pan’s most adorable character.

Peter Pan

While we’re on the story of Peter Pan, filmmaker David Lowery has signed on for a new take on the story of Neverland. However, since the complete and utter flop that was Hugh Jackman’s Pan, this one may be in the pipeline for some time.

Pinocchio

Still in early stages, the new version of Pinocchio has been in the works for years. Most recently we heard that ‘Dan in Real Life’ writer Peter Hedges was penning the screenplay, but so far no director or cast are yet confirmed.
