5 Feels Everybody Gets When The HSC Finally Ends

Brought to you by TAFE NSW

After 13 years of schooling, it all comes down to one thing: the HSC. One mention of it is enough to send chills down your spine.

After countless days and nights of cramming, writing palm cards and attempting to remember 7-page syllabuses word-for-word, it’s finally over. Done. Finito.

It’s kind of a surreal feeling to finally be free. So, whether you’re just starting your final year of high school, are in the thick of your trials or have bid farewell to that bad boy for good, we’ve identified all of the feels everyone gets when the HSC ends.

#1 Sweet, Sweet Relief

It’s over! Those exams you’ve been stressing over, for what feels like an eternity, are finally behind you for good.

Enjoy the moment. Organise a road trip with your mates, buy yourself some new clothes, book some concert tickets – do something – anything –  to treat yourself. You’ve earned it.

#2 “What Am I Even Doing With My Life?”

Those feels of pure bliss and freedom, while great, won’t last forever (sorry). One morning, not long after your final exam, you’ll wake up and ask yourself: “What in the actual heck am I even doing with my life?”

Trust us, we know it can be scary, but take comfort in the knowledge that you have so many options. Besides, nobody is actually expecting you to have the rest of your life mapped out a few days or weeks after you’ve finished high school, ya know? Kick back for a while.

#3 Ugh, Responsibility

Ooft. Post-HSC is your first tiny taste of what adulthood is like. There’s not much stopping you from sleeping in ‘til noon, eating all your meals in bed and being an all-‘round garbage monster.

Take a break, by all means, but make sure you’re doing something at least a little bit productive with your time. Find a casual job, start sussing out universities you might want to attend, find out if your local TAFE has any open days coming up – you get it.

#4 OMG So Much Unnecessary Stress

The tough part is over and done with, that’s for sure. But that doesn’t mean you’re magically immune from stressing over your results. It’s a lot of pressure and can feel like the number you eventually receive will make or break you.

For the record, it won’t.

You’ve done everything in your power to get the best marks possible and the results you receive are now totally out of your control. There are a million and one ways to get where you want to go in life and (spoiler alert) the HSC isn’t the be all and end all, we promise.

#5 A Little Sad, TBH

Going from seeing your best friends all day every day to having to make plans in order to catch up can be an interesting and challenging transition. Be sure not to isolate yourself from your squad.

It’s normal to feel down about leaving school, it’s basically all you’ve known for the last 13 years of your life! Just know that what comes next is going to be so much more epic. You’re gonna have a blast.
