Gigi Hadid And Zayn Malik’s Vogue Story Is Being Roasted For Their ‘Gender Fluidity’ Claims
Vogue has confused clothes-swapping for gender fluidity in their cover story on Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik and people aren’t stoked. Fair enough.
Zayn and Gigi are all cute and canoodling on the Vogue cover, with Gigi in a men’s blazer and Zayn in a women’s shirt with a blinged up jacket. Apparently this is enough to earn you a cover story titled “Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik Are Part Of A New Generation Embracing Gender Fluidity”. Nah m8.
Reactions online have been predictably pissed. Users on Twitter especially were not keen to buy into the cis-gendered couple as the champions of gender fluidity just because they’re borrowing each other’s clothes.
The most vocal opponents are pointing to the simple fact that the spokesperson for “embracing gender fluidity,” should probs be a gender fluid person, you know. This was a chance for representation of a minority group on the cover of the most-famous fashion mag in the world, but instead the gender identity is being flogged as an experimental fashion trend, like wearing socks with sandals. Either one is just not a good idea.
In the mean time, Vogue is getting the roasting it deserves for this mega fail at trying to be #woke. More like #nope. Amirite? People are getting vocal on Twitter and the internet is doing one huge eyeroll.
Here’s a sample of the reactions online:
