The ‘Riverdale’ Team Are Working On A Dark Reboot Of ‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’
Now this is a ’90s TV revival I can really get on board with. Word is the team behind Riverdale are working on a reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. And it’s going to be waaaaaaay darker than you remember.
According to Variety, the hour-long series, which is currently in development, will be based on the recent Archie Comics series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which tells the dark coming-of-age story of the iconic teenage witch.
Apparently the show will be “tonally in the vein of horror classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist and will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit.”
The series will involve a bunch of Riverdale talent, including director Lee Toland Krieger and exec producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater. Should the project go ahead, it will air in the 2018/2019 TV season, and function as a “companion” series to Riverdale — which presumably means we can look forward to Sabrina using Archie’s organs in some kind of satanic blood ritual. Good times.
Now they just need to lock down Melissa Joan Hart for a cameo.
