Osher Günsberg has officially ‘passed the torch’ to the new Australian Idol hosts, and I can’t believe I’m tearing up.

As you all know now, Australian Idol is coming back. And with the announcement of its return, a lot of people were hoping that most of the OG cast would be back, including Osher Günsberg, who hosted the show from 2003 to 2009, alongside James Mathison.

It’s also worth mentioning that Osher’s name back in the day was Andrew G, and he sported a blonde Justin Bieber surfer haircut.

On Tuesday, Australian Idol announced the judges and hosts for the 2023 season, sharing that Ricki-Lee would be returning to host the show that started her career, alongside 2010’s Aussie heartthrob, Scott Tweedie.

And in true Osher fashion, hairspray in hand, Osher gave his blessings to Scott taking on the hosting reigns on Idol. Alongside the funny video, he also posted a lengthy caption that described Scott as “one of the most professional, hard-working, humble human beings,” he has ever worked with, and added he’s keen to see what Scott and Ricki-Lee do on the show.

“Sail the good ship @AustralianIdol back out to sea for high ratings adventure! So stoked for you both. Can’t wait to watch.” UGH it makes me want to ugly-cry so bad.

It’ll be exciting to see Scott back in action on Aussie TV. If you don’t know who the heck Scott (or Scottie as we like to call him) is, he was the host of ABC’s Prank Patrol, and he kinda became a childhood crush for a bunch of Aussies. But since then, he’s been working as a music TV host for E! News for a couple of years. He’s got this gig in the bag.

Kyle Sandilands will be making a return as a judge, alongside newcomers Amy Shark, Harry Connick Jr. and Meghan Trainor.

I’m keen to see what’s to come from Australian Idol, even though we’ll miss out on Osher’s perfect hair.
