Great Barrier Reef

Ever wanted to dive with Nemo and Dori in the stunning Great Barrier Reef? Well, you could be running out of time as rising ocean temperatures and an influx of pollution may mean this natural wonder is destroyed within the next 100 years. It’s hard to believe, but every single piece of plastic ever created still exists today.

That’s every chip packet, every bottle of water and every shopping bag you’ve ever used in your entire life! 90% of all floating material in the ocean is plastic and every year, millions of sea birds and hundreds of thousands of marine mammals mistake the plastic for food and die as a result. Check out this video on the effect of plastic pollution on our oceans – it’ll give you chills!

Contiki recently took a host of global influencers and storytellers on an incredible journey through some of Eastern Australia’s most breath-taking and at risk coastal eco-systems to help raise awareness of the global impact of these areas to our oceans. Working with Surfrider Australia, the Contiki Storytellers campaign aims to raise awareness of the global plastic epidemic, and to educate young people about how we can all work as a global community to protect our oceans.
