A Beloved ’13 Reasons Why’ Character Died & Fans Aren’t Coping
Over the weekend, 13 Reasons Why dropped its fourth and final season on Netflix. This fact on its own would be sad enough, but the series has also killed off a beloved character and fans aren’t coping.
Season four saw the students of Liberty High head into their final year of high school, while trying to come to terms with the murder of Monty, who they framed for Bryce’s murder in last season’s finale.
FYI: This article contains massive series spoilers, so I’d stop reading right now if you haven’t watched the new season.
The season was a real rollercoaster and included some extremely dark moments. But just when life was getting a little brighter for everyone, at the school prom Justin collapsed on the dance floor. After being rushed to hospital, it was revealed that Justin had HIV, which he contracted from his time living on the street while addicted to heroine. His illness progressed to AIDS and Justin passed away just before graduation.
To say this death was tragic is an understatement. Justin began the series as an arrogant school jock, he later grappled with drug addiction, before eventually redeeming himself. The character was one of the most beloved by viewers, who shipped him and Jessica, and rooted for his friendship with Clay, which blossomed into more of a brother dynamic, after Clay’s family adopted Justin.

A lot of viewers were unhappy with the plot twist, which came at a time when most of the characters were finally finding peace after enduring a hell of a lot, considering they’re still in high school.
Honestly, someone give Clay and Jessica a goddamn break. They’ve been through ENOUGH.
Fans of 13 Reasons Why are not coping with the death of Justin:
