5 Things You Only Realise When You Move Into Student Accommodation
Campus Living Villages is the leading global provider of student accommodation.
Moving out of home and heading to university for the first time is one of those life milestones that you yearn for. But when you finally get there, it can be kinda crazy.
You can dream about it and plan for it, but moving out is inevitably going to come with a whole lotta surprises, so buckle up.
We’ve narrowed it down to the five most significant realisations you’ll have when you first move out, because you’re not alone on this wild ride we call “adult-ing”.
#1 You Don’t Own Half The Shit You Need
The set up costs for moving into student accommodation for the first time can stack up when you consider that you legit own next to nothing you need for a functioning household. Cutlery? Microwave? Couch? TV? Nup.
Unfortunately, these things don’t usually come when you move to a private flat, unless you hit the jackpot and move into fully-equipped student accommodation, or move in with someone who’s got that all sorted. Then just pray they never move out.
Minimalism is in anyway.
#2 The Fridge Doesn’t Stock Itself
Here’s how it goes down: you’ve just moved out and it’s all new and exciting and you do your first big grocery shop and you’re kinda like “whoaaa that was expensive, but look at me I’m so hella grown up!” The feeling of buying your own peanut butter is exhilarating, at first.
By week three, it’s more like, “why am I out of food again and what can I make with two eggs and a sweet potato?”
The good news is, you’ll learn to get crafty in the kitchen.
#3 Laundry Doesn’t Magically Happen
If you’ve had the privilege of living in a household where dirty laundry seems to magically disappear only to reappear in the form of clean, folded clothes, then prepare yourself for a slight readjustment.
The laundry pile will not take care of itself. It will, in fact, develop a smell. So take care of that. Weekly.
#4 Your Housemates Will Be Around, A Lot
Make sure you’re moving in with people you’re happy to see pretty damn often, because this is going to be your new house, fam. For the most part, life is good with easy access to mates and a whole lot of house banter.
But be warned: the excitement of the 24/7 socialising is bound to wear off, so alone time in your room is 100% going to be a thing, no matter how awesome your housemates are.
#5 You Will Feel Grown Up AF
The sense of independence you get from moving out is not a myth. There’s something about looking around YOUR room that just can’t be beat.
Wanna stay out late or wanna watch Stranger Things the entire weekend in bed with a tub of ice cream for dinner (yes)? You do you. Independence is beautiful.
