5 Times Reality Stars Were Better In Real Life Than On TV

When it comes to people we respect from least to most, the list goes as follows: those who use curly fonts on Instagram stories, the Prime Minister of Australia, baristas who brew us bean juice, doctors and then, at the tippy top, reality TV stars.

We don’t make the rules, we just report the facts.

The mark of a truly great reality TV star is judged by the iconic moments they bless us with both on and off screen. That’s why we’re reminding y’all of the times reality stars were better IRL than on TV.

Strap yourselves in, we’re doing this thing!

#1 When LiLo Showed Off Her Killer Dance Moves In Mykonos

A bunch of important stuff went down in 2018.

Australia got another new PM, Ariana Grande dropped Thank U, Next, and there was even a royal wedding. But TBH, all of these things are cancelled, because the only thing of true significance 2018 brought us is this clip of Lindsay Lohan dancing at one of her clubs in Mykonos.

The iconic footage was captured during the time LiLo was filming her MTV reality show Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, which has since been cancelled (RIP). It may be gone, but won’t soon be forgotten, thanks to the meme-worthiness of her dance moves.

Wow, we love the internet.

#2 Jonathan Van Ness’ Beautiful Instagram Feed In Its Entirety

Many reality stars are great, but we know just one who possesses the fabulousness to brighten an entire day through a simple Instagram post. We are of course talking about the Kween of Kweens, Jonathan Van Ness.

In between being a member of the Fab Five and filming Queer Eye, JVN is clearly committed to producing the goods – we’re talking about his absolute fire Instagram feed.

Whether he’s practicing pirouettes, flaunting figure skating skills that’d have Michelle Kwan shook, or simply being an all-round sweet baby angel, honestly, we stan.

Have you accepted Jonathan Van Ness as your personal saviour?

#3 Our Lord & Saviour, Cardi B

Look, if we want to talk about reality stars who are truly better IRL, we can’t not talk about the woman who straight-up changed the game forever. We’re of course talking about Cardigan Backyardigan (better known as Cardi B).

In case you missed it, Cardi’s rise to fame began when she began to attract a pretty big following on Instagram, on account of her hilarious no-BS attitude and willingness to spill all the tea.

She then went on to star in the VH1 reality TV series Love & Hip Hop: New York – perhaps most known for throwing her shoe at castmate Asia.

Thank you, Reality TV, for inventing reunion shows – we are so blessed.

And, well, you know how the rest of the story goes. Cardi scored her first record deal and, just four months later, released the chart-breaking banger ‘Bodak Yellow’. The rest is history. She has completely blown up and become without a doubt the biggest celebrities and most in-demand raptress in the game.

Keep slaying, queen.

#4 When Kim K Hit Up The White House

The only thing more fabulous than a Kardashian sister is one who laughs in the face of haters who claim she’s famous for nothing, completely owning critics by showing just how badass she truly is.

I am, of course, talking about the time Kris’ fave, Kim K, met with Donald Trump at the White House to speak on the behalf of a woman serving a life-long prison sentence without the possibility of parole, urging the president to pardon her after she spent more than two decades behind bars.

Great meeting with Kim Kardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.

I mean, just look at that picture of one of the most influential people on this planet and the leader of the free world posing next to Donald Trump. Ugh, iconic.

#5 Trixie Mattel’s Journey From Double Loser To All Star

RuPaul’s Drag Race is the greatest show on TV – there, we said it.

The best way to describe it to non-viewers would be if there was a program which took shows like Project Runway, Survivor, The Voice and Big Brother, combined them, then made it heaps, heaps gay.

More than 140 queens have sashayed their way into the Drag Race Werk Room, but none with the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent like the skinny legend herself, Trixie Mattel.

First appearing on season 7, Trixie’s performance in the competition was, well, a bit meh. She lost not once, but twice, after being brought back to the competition, only to be sent home again a couple of episodes later.

After leaving Drag Race a double loser, Trixie went on to do things no drag queen has done before. She rose to internet fame for her hilarious web series, Unhhh, which she stars in with fellow Drag Race alum, Katya, released two folk albums, toured the world as a stand-up comic and musician, and even went on to star in and produce her very own TV show. Sis really went out and did the damn thing.

If that weren’t enough, Trixie returned to compete in the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2018 and snatched the crown. In the words of Ms Mattel herself, “Winning isn’t everything, but it’s pretty f–kin cool!”
