6 Of The Internet’s Most-Relatable Personal Care Stories
Modibodi leak-proof underwear for periods, pee, perspiration and post-pregnancy - the eco-friendly alternative to pads, liners or tampons that keep you dry and comfy every day of your flow.
Okay — listen up. Self care isn’t just about face masks and fancy conditioners. Taking care of you is also prioritising personal care. And that doesn’t always go to plan. And, sometimes, it has hilarious — and hilariously awkward — results.
We’ve rounded up the internet’s most excruciating period stories and personal care moments, because we’ve all been there.
#1 We All Remember Our First
#MyFirstPeriod I was 10, had no idea what was happening, thought I had cancer, my mom was away, dad was panicking, my brother was so grossed out lol mom had to talk us through wearing a pad on speaker. I was standing half naked with my dad by the phone listening to mom. Awks.

Sure, it was billed as “a very special time” in every young woman’s life… but, um, also how freaked out were you when you got your period for the first time?!
I can’t say that I jumped for joy — and thank GOD I didn’t have to take pad lessons over the phone. In fact, science has progressed to the point where NO-ONE has to take pad lessons — you can just wear underwear with built in protection from a brand like Modibodi. Teens these days truly are living in blessed times.
#2 Okay, Maybe Not That Common, But Who Knows
i literally just peed myself on accident what the fuck i was just standing in an elevator and PEED
— emma (@emmachamberlain) 17 March 2019
Look, whether you’re 3 or 33, this happens to us all at some point — whether it’s because of a legit medical condition like incontinence or because we just really misjudged how long it would take that elevator to reach its destination.
But at least underwear that safeguards you from your own mind just letting you pee in an elevator has been invented. Thank you, 21st century.

Day 1, or D-Day — whatever you want to call the first day of your period — can leave you on tenterhooks. Every single motion leaves you dashing off to the loo… only to find that the main event hasn’t even started. Is there any frustration akin to that of the “Too close to risk it?”
#4 One For the Post-Preg Ladies…
We call that peezing
— CHERYL NOTT (@CHERYLNOTT) 29 January 2019
So, there’s a word (okay, more like a hashtag) for this — peezing. It means sneezing, and then peeing a little as a result. Therefore, your investment into Peezing Preventative Measures (P PMs, keep up) has to step TF up post-baby, so that your pelvic floor can do its thing.
#5 “Check Me”
turns around
“can u check?”
walks in front
“nah u good”
— monita (@MonitaRowell) 23 December 2018
As someone who grew up going to school in a white school dress (whose idea was that???), I know all too well that you and your mates had to watch out for each other. And the most sure-fire way to check your friend’s loyalty was to do the walk out in front, mouth those magic words, and get that reassurance — “nah u good”.
#6 Yeah, Where Is The #SweatAwareness?
I feel Brands need to do the Vagina sweat test before putting gym leggings on Sale.. ?
— Carly Rowena (@CarlyRowena) 5 January 2018
It can be really tough to go to the gym knowing you’re going to have to exit with your jacket tied around your waist. Exercise shouldn’t leave you feeling self-conscious or worried that everyone on your bus ride home is going to think that you have lost control while lifting weights.
Investing in better, more protective activewear and underwear designed to withstand this type of stuff will give you more confidence to feel strong at the end of the sweat sesh, rather than anxious.
So, that’s a wrap — personal care is a serious issue, but there’s always an opportunity to have a laugh. And knowing that you’re not alone, and that everyone has had a care catastrophe at some stage, will hopefully make you feel more confident in your own skin!
