Soccer Fans Are Roasting The A-League For Their New ‘Star Wars’ Round
The A-League has just revealed that it is teaming up with the Walt Disney Company for a Star Wars-themed round to celebrate the release of The Last Jedi. And in a development that should surprise no one, fans are roasting the absolute crap out of them.
According to an announcement from Football Federation Australia, Star Wars round will run from December 8-10, and will feature “character appearances, big screen content, themed activities, special signage and giveaways”.
A limited edition ball in the design of beloved droid BB-8 will also be available to purchase. Personally, I resent the FFA for trying to trick me into doing exercise in this way.
“Competitive sport can produce some of the most enthralling storylines, much like the acclaimed suite of Star Wars films,” said Disney’s Kylie Watson-Wheeler.
“We look forward to celebrating the hero’s journey through best-practice activations, content and experiences for families and fans alike.”
Fans on social media weren’t really buying it.

As a low-budget parody of an actual football competition, it’d be better for the A-League to do a Spaceballs round.

Goalkeepers should be forced to dress as Chewbacca and any one under 175cm should be an ewok for #StarwarsRound

On the positive side, this is still a hell of a lot less cringey than the NRL’s Marvel Round.
