Abbie Chatfield Got Emotional Opening Up About Her ADHD Struggles
Relatable queen Abbie Chatfield has gotten emotional when discussing her ADHD journey on her It’s A Lot podcast.
The reality personality revealed in May this year that she had been diagnosed with ADHD. She confirmed the news on Instagram and discussed it on her radio show, Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield.
The diagnosis came after she sought help for experiencing excessive periods of “hyperactivity” that were affecting her sleep, along with finding herself constantly forgetting things.
“My whole anxiety is feeling that I’m always behind on something, you know, like on holiday and you think you’ve forgotten something very important? That’s my feeling at all times,” she told her cohost Rohan Edwards
“[Being diagnosed with ADHD] is kind of like, I’m confirmed…. There is something that’s — not wrong — but is different, that can be fixed.”
An estimated one in 20 children in Australia have ADHD, with boys more than twice as likely to be diagnosed, often due to girls expressing different symptoms.
Abbie has now opened up more about her everyday struggles with ADHD and got emotional when revealing that she doesn’t feel like a “functioning adult” at times.

“I rarely cry on the podcast, but this week my #ADHD brain really struggled,” she shared in an Instagram caption. “The symptoms and consequences of those symptoms can range from irritating to costly to debilitating.”
In the video, Abbie described how her ADHD affects her daily life, and in turn, her self-worth. “I’m so sick of my ADHD f***ing with my life,” she began. “Yeah, [I’m] just not like, not very good at anything and not being able to organise my life like an actual functioning adult.”
Abbie relayed a story where she was recently left in tears at the airport after she forgot to check her boarding pass and ended up losing out on $2000. “People will say, ‘You should’ve checked your boarding pass!’ and it’s like, “Yeah, I have a f***ing brain issue that prevents me from doing that’,” she said.
“I just felt like a f***ing… like an incompetent, silly girl,” Abbie admitted while wiping a tear from her cheek.
The caption concluded with Abbie telling her 428k followers, “I wanted to speak about how my self-esteem tends to get a little hit every time I forget something, lose something, am late, don’t make it to an appointment, get told to be quiet or whatever it may be. I can laugh about it mostly, but some weeks are a little too much.”
The It’s A Lot video has been flooded with praise from fans empathising with Abbie’s experiences. “I actually made dinner yesterday. That was a fucking win and nobody can tell me otherwise,” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “My son has ADHD… You’re still made of amazingness, we’re all different, we all fall down in some capacity and shine in others. And you are absolutely a big sparkly shiny being in sooooo many ways that’s for f**king sure!”
Amen!
