Ever since Netflix’s original series Stranger Things turned our lives Upside Down, the shows abrupt cliff-hanger ending has left everyone on the edge- with so many questions left unanswered. But luckily, Netflix’s breakout show that brought Winona Ryder to the small screen, is already rumoured to have several seasons in the pipeline.

Referring to season two, the series’ social media pages posted the following yesterday:

Quickly the internet figured out that if you subtract 58 from 67, 42 from 50 and 13 from 30, you’re left with 9 / 8 / 17. By American standards, that date would be September 8, 2017. So, there you have it.

Co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer have given plenty of hints on what to expect and here is everything we know so far.

*WARNING: SEASON ONE SPOILERS AHEAD*

The potential upcoming seasons will be filmed a year apart, as the creators wanted to replicate a ‘Harry Potter style’ kind of pacing, meaning each respective season would take place one school year later.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creator Matt Duffer said: “The dream is a Harry Potter situation,” he said. “I love watching kids growing up on camera. So the idea [of]seeing where these kids and these characters are one year later is cool to me. And it allows us to explore the mythology of our nether.”

This way we would see the younger characters played by Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin navigate their way through their pre-teen years as the series unfolds.

Speaking with IGN, Duffer revealed that the young actors are growing so quick, that they couldn’t have the series follow on immediately after the ending.

“You have to jump a year. Because, like, [for example with]Gaten [Dustin], his voice has already dropped quite a bit, to the point where we couldn’t even do ADR [automated dialogue replacement] with him. We had to pitch it way up. It’s dropped. He’s grown.

“As much as I would love to have it be Christmas right after that, it’s just not feasible, so we’re going to skip a year. They’ll be a year older, and all their changes they’re going through, we’ll take that into account and kind of work that into the show.”

In terms of the plot, according to Inquisitr the second season is set to tackle the condition of Will Byer. One of the final scenes of season one, shows Will vomiting after his time being trapped in the Upside Down, so we will find out how the toxic air affected him.

More good news is the series is set to keep all the same characters in the upcoming season, while adding a few new ones. As Shawn Levy told SlashFilm about his vision for the series.

“The plan is to continue with this set of characters while introducing a few critical key new ones next season. So I’ll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of Season 1, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way,” said Levy.

“Things end up being resolved to some extent at the end of Season 1, but not entirely. And that’s why we’re so hopeful we get another few seasons to live with these people a little longer.”

One of the major mysteries left unsolved from the first season was what happened to Eleven? In the shows finale, after the young girl destroys the monster, all we can assume is that Eleven had died. However we then see Sheriff Hopper leave a packet of Eggos in the woods. While Duffer didn’t reveal specifics, he did not say that she is dead.

“Obviously something happened to her when she destroyed and killed that monster and we don’t know where she went,” he said. “Hopper is left with this guilt because he sold her out. We wanted to leave it sort of mysterious exactly what he knows.

“Have there been sightings in the woods or is he hoping she’s out there or has he already made contact with her? We don’t answer any of that, but we like the idea of potentially putting her and Hopper together.”

Sounds suspiciously like she will be alive and well in season two. Either way, the upcoming season can’t come any sooner.
