In news that will keep you entertained this arvo, people are making bonkers memes with an AI meme generator and it’s deeply addictive.

The generator appears to be new, as internet folk only started sharing memes created with the generator earlier this week, with Aussie Twitter user @marrowing alerting us to the website’s existence — and the truly strange images it creates.

People on Twitter are having heaps of fun with the generator making memes that generally result in hilarious nonsense.

On the Imgflip website, you can either be presented with a random meme, or choose the template you want the meme to be based on. All your fave meme formats are there including: jealous girlfriend, woman yells at cat, Drake yes/no and Trump bill signing.

I don’t exactly understand the science behind it, but this is what the website says about how each meme is generated:

“These captions are generated by a deep artificial neural network. Nothing about the text generation is hardcoded, except that the maximum text length is limited for sanity.”

Ugh. I don’t know what that means either. I’ll assume the text from the memes is derived from other popular memes or viral content on the internet, then formatted into each specific meme template.

Anyways, sometimes the results are actually way too real.

This generator is going to be the end of my productivity for the day, and I’ve accepted that.
