With great power comes great responsibility. It was a contest that could of given Australia their next go-to lolly but the national votes are in, and the results are cooked.

Voters had a choice between three fresh new flavours developed by Allen’s Lollies to get their own bag. The candy company unveiled the chosen variety yesterday arvo:

Choc and cream?! It’s essentially a combination of Allen’s two worst flavours: Chicos and milk bottles. Nestlé’s Martin Brown described the winning variety as:

“A twist on the classic Strawberries & Cream, the Choc & Cream has stolen the hearts of chocoholic lolly-lovers across the nation. It’s the perfect lolly for those fans who love both lollies and chocolate,” he said in a statement.

Let’s be real for a sec, chocolate flavoured lollies are not the same as chocolate. Very very different.

Admittedly, the other options weren’t great. A Ginger Cat was in the running, which was just super bland. Funny Teeth made it to second place behind Choc & Cream which landed 46 per cent of the vote.

Last year Allen’s launched its first nationwide vote for a lolly within the Party Mix to get its own bag. The Peaches and Cream jelly (rightfully) won, so it’s puzzling that such a similiar but lesser alternative would even make it to the competition.

All while milk chocolate covered raspberries – the ultimate lolly dream combo – is still yet to take off.

The dreaded Choc & Cream lolly bag will be available in Woolworths stores from late March.
