We Analysed The First Page Of The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Script & Oy It’s Fantastic
The Gilmore Girls Netflix revival ‘A Year in the Life’ is only a mere two months away *SQUEALS UNAPOLOGETICALLY* and in an unexpected move, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has shared the first page of the script.
For the initial episode, “Winter” the single page script as revealed to Entertainment Weekly, gives us a pretty encouraging idea of what to expect. Good news is: if the rest of the four-part series is as good as this preview, the revival is set to be fantastic. YAAS!
As the final season of the show was without the Sherman-Palladino clan – and therefore has some fairly lackluster dialogue and story lines – the return of the writing team and the original GG voice is highly anticipated.
Here’s the script excerpt below:
First of all, the scene is set as Lorelai waiting with coffee on the Stars Hollow Gazebo steps, and this just makes me so happy in my insides. We’re back in our beloved Gilmore Girls old stomping ground, and surrounded by our fave townies.
As Rory appears, we get the idea that she still at least visits Stars Hollow from time to time, but as we soon learn, she just got off a plane. Could she live somewhere else? Maybe in Manhattan working her dream job at The New York Times, or even Washington working as a media adviser in the presidential office, as those earlier Michelle Obama social media posts may have hinted.
Or could she have moved to Philadelphia, to follow a certain ex boyfriend?
Straight away the dialogue is on point, and I can hear the characters are still very much present and consistent with earlier seasons. The back and fourth between the two from the get-go sounds like a regular convo they would have in any episode.
Lorelai jabs at Rory are quick, hilariously random and scattered with pop culture references, some obvious like Les Miserables and some more obscure (‘comfort dogs’ any one?). The response of “What airline are you flying” from Rory is her typical dead-pan response.
Lorelai accusing Rory of being ‘Goop’d’ is my favourite part and classic GG. For those unaware, Goop is Gwyneth Paltrow’s website, that is often mocked for promoting rich privileged pretentious rubbish.
Lauren Graham told EW that when she read the Goop gag: “I just felt like that’s so quintessentially Amy and Lorelai,” Graham said. “It was then that I was like, ‘We’re going to be okay.’”
Yes, we are. If the first page is anything to judge, the revival could be everything fans could have imagined and more. Welcome back Amy! You’ve been missed.
