An Analytical Breakdown Of The First Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life Revival Trailer
It’s coming!! The first trailer for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was released this morning, along with a release date for 25 November, 2016. It’s a fascinating trailer, stuffed with a bunch of plot point hints.
There is A LOT to cover, so here’s a breakdown of every single second of the clip and what it may mean for the series.
The trailer opens in Stars Hollow town square, as we zoom over to Luke’s Diner, the Dragonfly Inn and Doose’s Market. Everything looks exactly the same (YAY!), as the text reads:
“Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Seasons may change. But some things never will.”
From this we can assume the show will begin in Winter and end in Fall.
Lorelai is NOT wearing a wedding ring. So this could mean that her and Luke are not married, and possibly not even engaged or even still together. Rory isn’t wearing a ring either, so sozzi die hard Jess/Rory 4EVA fans, she may still be a single lady.
*CRIES HYSTERICALLY*
Another thing you may notice, is that the mother and daughter are feasting away on none other than their old fave snack Pop Tarts, possibly strawberry flavoured. Looks like the two still have a penchant for all things sugary and fatty, despite never gaining a single kilo, SMH.
As we open, there are Christmas lights and decorations around them, so we know some of the episode will focus around the holiday, and since the first episode is Winter, we can expect a chrissy-focused opening.
Rory appears to be on some kind of smart phone, so the series will be rooted in today’s technology.
In the main scene, Rory is dressed like a soccer mum, which is little odd but she was never the greatest dresser. While Lorelai is wearing a ‘I’m with Human’ t-shirt, and she happens to be covering her stomach with a newspaper. IS LORELAI PREGGERS?!
The trailer has them arguing over whether Amy Schumer would like Lorelai, which is hilarious, shows that Gilmore Girls has adapted to today’s pop culture references and yes the writing is still great. Even Schumer has jumped into the debate.

OF COURSE SHE WOULD.
But while the script feels consistent with the original show, both of their voices are VERY different. Alexis Bledel as Rory seems the most different in voice and character. The character does not feel quite right. Sure, it’s a very short snapshot of what’s to come and the character has aged but Bledel just seems a bit off. We will have to wait and see how the character develops.
The trailer ends with: “Once a Gilmore always a Gilmore”. Let’s bloody hope so!
