In a world where social media can sometimes seem like a never-ending source of criticism, Ariana Grande has taken a stand against body-shaming and encouraged her fans to do the same.

The ‘Thank You, Next’ singer tends to use her TikTok to promote her beauty products and share cute posts, but she switched it up Wednesday morning to address her followers about some of the criticism she’s copped online recently.

Grande, who was noticeably dressed down and sans eye makeup, began the clip by explaining that she doesn’t “do this often” but said she wanted to “address your concerns about my body.”

“I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what. If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned… We just shouldn’t,” she told her followers.

In the last few months, the 29-year-old’s fans, commonly known as Arianators, have speculated about her smaller frame on social media. Ariana indirectly addressed these comments by opening up about substance abuse and the struggles she’s faced in the past that have affected her body size.

“I know personally for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants and drinking on them and eating poorly and at the lowest point of my life, when I looked the way you consider my healthy. But that in fact, wasn’t my healthy,” she said.

“I know I shouldn’t have to explain that, but I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here something good might come from it.”

Despite the cruel speculation the Wicked star has received about her own weight of late, in the video she concentrated on the importance of self-love. “I guess I just wanted to extend some love your way and tell you that you’re beautiful. No matter what phase you’re in.”

“Have a very beautiful day. And I’m sending you a lot of love,” she concluded.

Grande’s ability to take negative comments from strangers and spin them into a self-love lesson for her fans is truly inspirational. In the words of the singer herself, “This is one small step for woman, one giant leap for woman-kind.”
