All-round Aussie top bloke and legendary film maker, George Miller AO has been announced as the Jury President of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The mastermind behind the success of the ”Mad Max’ films will be the top-dog, heading up the Cannes Film Festival jury and dishing out the gongs.

The 70-year-old filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, (oh yeah, and just casually, a former medical doctor) will also have the responsibility of choosing the film that will receive the prestigious Palme d’Or award at the end.

The renowned Cannes event in the South of France serves as a showcase for the world’s filmmakers and actors – and doesn’t necessarily play favor to the big budget-CGI-bungie-cord-stunt-man filled blockbusters, but rather credits creative and artistic abilities.

In a statement, Miller shared his excitement about the gig, saying:

“What an unmitigated delight! To be there in the middle of this storied festival at the unveiling of cinematic treasures from all over the plane. To spend time in passionate discourse with fellow members of the jury. Such an honor. I’ll be there with bells on!”

Last year, the festival’s board of directors appointed the Coen Brothers – Joel Coen and Ethan Coen– as joint Presidents of the Jury.
