Elvis Austin Butler is being brutally roasted online for accepting his Golden Globe as Elvis Presley — and the memes are hilarious.

On Wednesday, the Golden Globe Awards celebrated the best of television and movies from the last year.

Austin Butler nabbed an award for his incredible performance as Elvis Presley in Elvis, scoring a Golden Globe in the ‘Best Actor in A Drama Motion Picture’ category. Prior to his big win, Austin revealed he had spent three years preparing for the role of Elvis, telling Variety,I didn’t see my family for about three years… I was speaking in his [Elvis] voice the whole time.”

Wow. It sucks to be Austin’s family, I guess.

But back to Austin’s win, the moment was overshadowed by his choice to use his Elvis voice for… his entire acceptance speech.

We watched the award ceremony live in the office and thought that the impersonation would stop after he said, “My boy, my boy,” but nope, it continued throughout the whole speech.

Many fans who have seen Austin’s speech have shared their reactions online, and some of them are hilarious AF:

After the official awards ceremony, Austin addressed whether his voice has changed since taking on the Elvis role. “I don’t think I sound like him [Elvis] still, but I guess I must because I hear it a lot. You know, I often liken it to when someone lives in a country for a long time and I had three years where that was my only focus in life, so I’m sure that there’s just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked in that way,” he said.

Putting all the jokes and memes aside, Austin deserved to be awarded for his hard work on Elvis, and his speech was really, really sweet if you listened to his words… even with that bizarre voice.
