YAAAS: Here’s How Australia Is Celebrating The ‘Yes’ Vote & Love Winning
Well, it happened. Australia voted on whether same-sex couples should have the right to marry. It was awful and unnecessary but in the end… guess what: LOVE WON.
The Bureau of Statistics head statistician David Kalisch announced the news this morning from Canberra. As we’ve all had to tolerate months of hate campaigns masquerading as ‘respectful debate’ and some just truly terrible ‘No’ ads that defy reason, in the end the survey found that every single state and territory voted ‘Yes’. Yes, yes, yes! We are bloody proud!
The final figures found that 61.6 percent of Aussies voted ‘Yes’, while ‘No’ responses made up 38.4 percent. More than 12 million Australians voted, making up a total of 79.5 percent of the voting population.
We for one want to say a resounding: FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Let’s just hope the pollies do their jobs.
Here’s how Aussies are reacting online:
