‘Australian Survivor’ Fans Are Calling Out A Vile Moment In The Premiere
Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains has just begun and our blood is already boiling over some comments thrown around in the Heroes tribe.
To give you a quick TL;DR, animal activist Rogue Rubin said some vile things in a conversation with fellow tribe member, Nina Twine, the daughter of Survivor OG queen, Sandra.
Rogue asked where Nina was from, to which Nina shared that she was from North Carolina. Nina then began to describe where North Carolina was located in the US to Rogue, but instead of going along with the conversation, Rogue got confrontational and told Nina, “Because I live there half the time, I don’t need you to explain it like I’m an idiot.” Woah.
Nina then awkwardly smiled back, saying “Oohhh, gotcha.” But Rogue doubled down with her condescending approach, telling Nina, “I work in the US all the time.” Okay!
And then all of a sudden, totally unprovoked, Rogue told Nina, a black woman, something extremely cooked. “I’m more African-American than you are, you need to understand that,” she actually said aloud.
Oh I need her to GO ASAP.#SurvivorAU pic.twitter.com/xwJOBGpV4S

Rogue was born in Cape Town to a Zimbabwean mother and a South African father.
Regardless of her background, Rogue’s words were incredibly problematic, considering that Nina is one of the only people of colour on this year’s Survivor, and the only black contestant.
Many viewers of Monday night’s premiere have shared their shock over Rogue’s words, with people calling for her to be voted off ASAP.
*immediately casts my vote for Rogue for insisting that they’re more African American than an actual POC* #survivorau
My jaw DROPPED when she said that

Imagine already coming out as the show racist this early on when there are literal Sky News journalists on there with you ? #SurvivorAU

#SurvivorAU Rogue: "You don't have to explain to me like im stupid"
Immediately follows through with the most stupid sentence of 2023.

WTF Rogue? She really went rogue !
Don’t miss with princess Nina #SurvivorAU pic.twitter.com/veynSOdbNw

Feeling for Nina. She's already playing on a cast with little diversity, as the only black person, let alone the only non-Australian, only to have Rogue offensively undermine her identity from the very beginning. As if Survivor isn't hard enough #SurvivorAU

How did Rogue end up in Heroes tribe? #SurvivorAU pic.twitter.com/oLtElxOp30

Rogue by name rogue by nature that comment was not needed. It was tonedeaf af. I would have gone atomic. Nina handled that with such class. #survivorau

“why did the editors keep in rogue’s racist comment to nina?”
ACCOUNTABILITY – that’s why. if they didn’t show it then you wouldn’t know what kind of person this woman is. or if we heard that it had happened post season, everyone would ask for proof. #SurvivorAU

On Rogue:
I’m glad it was shown, if you’re willing to say that on camera it should be aired
I wish we got a confessional from Nina
My bet is no one heard, forced reaction shots mean nothing on #SurvivorAU
I hope there was producer intervention & Nina’s comfort was prioritised

"I'm more African American than you are. I think you need to know that" White lady with a fake name to a Black woman from North Carolina. ? #SurvivorAU

Fans of Survivor have also taken to the show’s Instagram account to call for producers to address the comments made by Rogue.
Rogue’s social media accounts are clear of any Survivors content — it’s almost like she never participated in the show. She’s also disabled comments which typically means the person is preparing for some major backlash.
It’s extremely disappointing that disgraceful comments have been thrown around on the very first episode of this year’s Australian Survivor. I’m really hoping that Rogue is held accountable for her actions and as for Nina, I hope she wins the whole season.
The queen (aka Nina’s mum Sandra) put it perfectly.
Rogue B*tc*, ✨this is outrageous. How are you so ignorant! Didn’t you say you had a sense of right & wrong. #survivorau B*tc* ✨ Please. Adios Mate https://t.co/mF9bUiKVWf
