Australian Survivor returned last night with a twist: unsurprisingly, this year’s game will be played on home soil.

Castaways will, well, not exactly be castaways this season. Instead of being dropped on a tropical island, they’ll be competing in the harsh climate of the Australian outback. Another twist is that contestants are divided into brains or brawn, which didn’t bode well for the Brains tribe in the first episodes — as they lost both the rewards and immunity challenges.

Labor spin-doctor George is obviously the season villain, and I predict he might stick around for a while. During the premiere, George just happened to magically find an advantage scribe that saved himself and five others from an early eviction. I can’t prove that it was placed there so George could find it, but I also know there are no coincidences when it comes to Survivor.

George is a strange man, but I’m kind of obsessed with him. In one baffling moment, he bragged about helping a Macedonian church before claiming that “Macedonian Jesus” had a hand in protecting his place in the game. Umm. Sure Jan!

While it appeared like Team Brains were about to vote out novelist Wai due to her poor performance in the challenge, George saved Wai which left quirky, crochet-wearing contender Phil vulnerable, as one of the only leftover tribe members who didn’t excel in challenges. Phil was voted out, his torch was snuffed and it was a goddamn tragedy.

During his short time on the show, Phil provided hilarious commentary and he would have been entertaining to watch. At least Phil blessed us with two of the most iconic parting words ever dropped on this show: “Avenge me!”

We will Phil, we will.
