‘Australian Survivor’ Viewers Are Baffled That Kez Was Allowed To Pass Her Idol To Another Player
True to form, last night’s Australian Survivor was jammed with twists and turns, but the biggest shocker was saved for the final minutes after Kez was voted out at tribal council.
Following her elimination, Kez slipped her recently discovered hidden immunity idol over to Flick — which baffled viewers watching, as this is something we’ve never seen a castaway do before.

Is that even a thing that’s allowed?!
Australian Survivor all-star and Talking Tribal host, Nick Iadanza, has since confirmed that the idol is now back in the game, as the Australian version of the reality show changed the rules in 2020 to allow idols (and other advantages) to be passed before an eliminee’s torch is snuffed.
Ok I can clarify if needed.
Before All Stars, the rules were changed so that idols and advantages could be passed to others up until the torch snuffing.#SurvivorAU

The ability to pass idols after being voted out is something that has never been allowed on the US version of the format, which is one of the longest running reality shows with a mammoth 40 season under its belt.
I just searched American Survivor for what happens if in possession of idol after being voted out.. this is what I read..

Aussie viewers were not fans of this new rule, with most agreeing that Kez should have gone home with her idol.

#SurvivorAU That Idol should be dead. If you get voted out with anything, it should ALWAYS STAY DEAD. That's the gamble. That's the point.

What about poor bloody George!???
That was the whole point of his plan, to flush the idol. But the idol has been hot potato’d.
What if that idol ultimately sends home George!!??
Ok, breathe. #SurvivorAU pic.twitter.com/KmRnVEA2NJ

If they allow that idol to be played then it’s gonna set a dangerous precedent going forward #SurvivorAU

Idol passing after being voted out is based on the technicality of the in-game purgatory between getting votes & snuffing your torch. It softens big moves & punishes good gameplay, rewarding allies of the blindsided. In definite need of a rule change #SurvivorAU #SurvivorSA

As a longtime fan of the Australian series, I personally don’t agree with this rule. Sure, we love to keep it interesting on this show, but by allowing eliminated people to pass their idols to others, this overshadows and undercuts the big moves it typically takes to blindside players with idols.
Kez’s elimination involved George acting as a double-agent between alliances, convincing the former Brain alliance to pile their votes on Kez, after he saw her discover the idol. George’s plan was to remove any more idols in the game. Was all that for nothing?
We love a blindside and a blindside with an idol flushed out of the game is especially sweet. Don’t take this from us, Channel 10.
