After a truly sensational season, Hayley Leake was awarded the title of sole survivor on the Australian Survivor finale last night.

In a finale face-off, Hayley was pitted against George Mladenov — making the final two standing the two strongest and most dominant players in the season, which rarely happens in a finale.

Typically when one player wins the final immunity, they take a weaker player to the final jury to ensure their pitch is more impressive — but not Hayley. After winning a hectic endurance challenge that involved standing on pegs for hours upon hours, she then heard pitches from political operative, George, and big wave surfer, Flick Palmateer.

She ultimately chose to take George to the finale due to the fact that the jury was made up of more Brawn members than Brain, so she wanted to give herself a better chance to appeal to the jury, without tribe alliances swaying any votes. Hayley and George delivered their final pitches and answered questions from the jury, before their fate was left in the jury’s hands.

In the end, Hayley received seven votes, with George only receiving two.

Hayley has well and truly earned herself the title of sole survivor and she took home a cheque for $500,000 for her efforts. This is the first season filmed under the harsh climate of the Australian outback — instead of a tropical island — so Hayley’s win comes, arguably, under much tougher circumstances than other previous winners.

Hayley is an icon, she’s a legend, and she is the moment. Here are some of the best tweets from last night’s hectic final episode.
