It’s All Over: Avicii Announces He’s Quitting All Touring And Live Shows
RIP. Avicii bangerz – the Swedish DJ-and-producer who brought us such songs as Levels, Wake Me Up and Hey Brother has decided playing gigs and touring is no longer from him.
Aviccii, whose real name is Tim Bergling – wrote a long (read: really long) letter, which for some god unknown reason was written in Comic Sans. The note thanks all the people he’s worked with over the years and thanks fans for all their support. It explains that he’ll be giving up life on the road after his current run of shows ends but has promised to continue making music.
The unusual rant also included his new mobile number at the bottom, allowing his 17M fans to drop him a line and say g’day. As ya do.
In the lengthy post on avicii.com, he wrote:
“My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps. I’ve become an adult while growing as an artist, I’ve come to know myself better and realize that there’s so much I want to do with my life.
I have strong interests in different areas but there’s so little time to explore them.
“I will however never let go of music – I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let’s make them go out with a bang! (sic)”
Avicii has spent the last five years working with some of the best in the business with collaborations with the likes of Nile Rodgers and Aloe Blacc. At present, he isn’t ruling out a returning to gigging in the future but at the moment his mind is made up that it’s the end of the road for him as a live attraction.
He said in the statement:
“One part of me can never say never, I could be back … but I won’t be right back.”
He also took the opportunity to thank his fans for their loyal support, and his brother-and-manager Ash and everyone he’s worked with.
He stated: “But last but not least thank you to every fan who has ever bought a ticket or snuck in, bought a song or downloaded it, commented on posts or hated at them. It’s your thoughts and ideas about the music that helped me evolve and I do owe everything I have to you.”
Another post to Instagram directed fans to the website where fans wrote a bunch of support:
The news of Avicii’s retirement from touring comes just five months after the 26-year-old EDM star released his second studio LP ‘True’.
Avicii’s final performances come over the weekend of August 26 to August 28 in the UK at Belfast’s Boucher Playing Fields festival and Creamfields.
