It wasn’t that he took a pill in Ibiza, and it’s not because Stereo is shutting down – Avicii had no other choice but to retire from touring because of his health.

The hekerz ‘dance floor legend’ (according to some) admitted that the past few years on the road have degraded his health and health professionals recommended he stop effective immediately. The Swedish DJ-and-producer has battled with acute pancreatitis in 2012 and had his appendix and gallbladder removed two years later.

It’s no surprise that his body just can’t handle the heat when you consider that he’ll be winding down with just under 40 last shows between now and his earned retirement in late August.

Speaking to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, he explained his decision:

“To me it was something I had to do for my health. The scene was not for me. It was not the shows and not the music. It was always the other stuff surrounding it that never came naturally to me.

“I’m more of an introverted person in general. It was always very hard for me. I took on board too much negative energy, I think.”

And, although the 26-year-old superstar is still battling with ailments, he has admitted he’s already seen a huge improvement in his stress levels since his announcement.

He said:

“I just feel happy. I feel free at this point. I have my private life back and focusing on myself for the first time in a long time. This was obviously the hardest decision of my life so far. But so far it has paid off tremendously in terms of well-being for me.

“I’m happier than I have been in a very long time. I can’t say I’m never going to have a show again. I just don’t think I’m going to go back to the touring life.”

Avicii’s retirement comes just five months after he released his second studio LP ‘True’ and the Swede hasn’t ruled out more new music in the near-future – with ambitions to go all Sia and release tracks while keeping on the down-low.
