Avril Lavigne Joined TikTok To Reveal The Identity Of ‘Sk8er Boi’ & It Makes Perfect Sense
He was a boy. She was a girl. Could Avril Lavigne make it anymore obvious? Well, yeah hun, you could! Who is he?!
In 2002, Avril dropped a song that would go on to redefine a whole pop-punk generation: ‘Sk8er Boi’, of course. The second single from her iconic Let Go album told the story of a ballet girl who dumped a skater boi because her friends “had a problem with his baggy clothes” and “he wasn’t good enough for her”. Five years later, she’s a single mum, while skater boi grew up to become a famous rockstar. Her friends have “all got tickets to see his show” and as ballet girl attends the gig, she is left with a lifetime of regrets. Avril swooped in and started dating skater boi and they wrote this very song just to humiliate his ex.
It’s the ultimate revenge anthem and while we still have no clue who this ballet girl was, Avril has hinted that skater boi happens to be the world’s most famous professional skateboarder, Tony Hawk. Avril made her grand debut on TikTok, posting a clip lip-syncing to ‘Sk8er Boi’ and just as the camera zooms in on her famous necktie, it zooms out to reveal that perhaps Tony (aka the OG skater boi) was the song’s inspiration all along.
It makes so much sense.
